The Department of Information Technology is in the process of replacing existing office phones with new Microsoft Teams phones. During this transition, existing office telephone lines will be converted to Teams phone lines, allowing faculty and staff to use their devices to make or receive calls.
Your office line will be transferred to your Microsoft Teams account, allowing you to make and receive calls from the Teams app on your computer or smartphone, without the need for a traditional desk phone. This means that you can call from your computer, smartphone or tablet and it will appear as your Seton Hall number to the person you are calling.
You will need to ensure that you have a microphone in order to make or receive calls in Teams. If you have a Seton Hall laptop, you have a microphone built in. However, if you are on a desktop computer, you will need to have a microphone to make calls. A webcam will work for this purpose. Smart phones will receive calls very much like a regular phone call and will utilize the built-in microphone and speaker system.
Employees that choose to use Teams on their smartphone may set quiet hours and days to avoid notifications at specified times or disable Teams call notifications altogether.
Use the dial pad to make a call
The dial pad can be used like a typical phone to make a call to a phone number. (You can also type in names or groups.)
To dial a number from Teams, go to Calls, and then enter the number of the person you want to reach by using the dial pad located on the left. Then click Call.
To call a person by name, type the name of a person into the dial pad. And to make group calls, enter multiple names and/or numbers, and click Call.
To access your dial pad during a call, go to your call controls and select Dial pad.
Answer a call in Teams
When someone calls you, you'll get a notification that lets you accept or decline the call.
Select Accept with audio to answer with audio only.
Select Accept with video to accept the call and enable video as well.
Select Decline call to decline the call and go on with your day.
Transfer a call
When you're in a call, on the call controls, select More actions (...) > Transfer.
Type in who to transfer the call to, and choose them.
Select Transfer to finish it.
Set up a delegate to take your calls
Add a delegate to answer or make calls on your behalf in Microsoft Teams.
Select your profile photo.
Select Settings > General, and then select Manage delegates.
Select Your delegates and type the person's name.
Choose which permissions to give them, and then select Add. Your delegate gets notified about their new status.
Under Calls, select Forward my Calls > My delegates to manage your permissions and make sure your calls go to all your delegates.
Review and filter your calls
Use History to review all your calls. And select Filter > More options (...) to sort calls by:
Outgoing
Incoming
Missed
Voicemail
You can also search and filter calls by name or number in your History.
Play a voicemail
Choose a voicemail to listen to and select Play.
Read a voicemail transcript in the Details pane if one's available.
Manage your speed dial group
Speed dial groups show numbers you can quickly call.
Under Speed dial, to add a contact, select the three dots (...) > Add a contact to this group.
Type a name, choose someone, and select Add.
Hover over a contact's speed dial card to start an audio or video call.
Manage call notifications
If you belong to a call group, select the Call group menu to manage your call notifications.
To change your call forwarding, select the Forwarding menu, choose an option, or select More Settings.
To manage your audio devices, select the Audio Devices menu, choose an option, or select Device settings.
