By way of Seton Hall University’s partnership with Microsoft all of our active customers are able to install (for free) the full Microsoft Office 365 software suite onto both personal and SHU-issued devices.

The process to use MS Office 365 software suite is broken into two sections:
How to install MS Office 365 software suite:
Go to http://www.shu.edu homepage and select link to "PirateNet" in upper right-hand corner.
Enter your eight-character username and network password to log into account.
From the "PirateNet Dashboard" (aka "Okta"), select button for "Microsoft Office 365 Mail"
(to access your mailbox).
In upper right-hand corner of your mailbox, select your "Avatar" icon and choose "View account"
Your "Avatar" icon will typically be your initials or the custom photo you uploaded that appears when your relay a message.
On the left-hand panel, select "Office apps"
On the "Apps & Devices" screen, select the "Install Office"button.
Locate the "OfficeSetup.exe" (or similar name) installer that was downloaded and launch it.
If you get prompted asking "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?", select "Yes".
The software package will then download and install MS Office 365 software suite onto your device.
Based upon your connection speed and amount to install this process may take a little while.
How to activate MS Office 365 software suite:
Launch any of the newly installed MS Office 365 software suite programs.
In this write-up we are using MS Office Word.
On the "Accept the license agreement" screen, select the "Accept" button.
On the "Sign in to activate Office" screen, select the "Sign in" button.
On the "Activate Office" screen, enter your <username>@shu.edu and select the "Next" button.
For example, if your name was Mary Smith and you have a username of "smithmar" you would enter "smithmar@shu.edu" (without the quotes)
On the "We need a little more help" screen, select "Work or school account".
When prompted log in with your PirateNet credentials.
If you are prompted, on the “Stay signed in to all your apps" screen you must do both of the following:
A. uncheck/remove checkbox for "Allow my organization to manage my device".
B. select the “No, sign in to this app only” option.
This is especially important if you are installing MS Office 365 software suite onto a personally owned (i.e. non-SHU issued) device.
Please note: Activation of MS Office 365 software suite is done so by way of your SHU-issued mailbox.
You will be prompted periodically to re-activate the software.
When you graduate, if you were to leave the university or end your employment with SHU your mailbox will be disabled. As such you would no longer be able to re-activate the software.
