Microsoft Planner

Microsoft Planner is a task and project management application available through Microsoft 365. Planner helps teams organize work, assign tasks, track progress, collaborate on projects, and manage activities visually across departments and teams.

Planner is integrated with Microsoft 365 and can be accessed through a web browser, Microsoft Teams, and mobile devices.


Access Planner from the Planner Website

  1. Open a web browser.

  2. Go to:

  3. Sign in using your Seton Hall University Microsoft 365 account.


Access Planner from Microsoft 365

  1. Go to:

  2. Sign in using your Seton Hall University account.

  3. Select the App launcher in the upper-left corner of the page.

  4. Select Planner.

Tip: If Planner does not appear immediately, select More apps or All apps to locate it.


Access Planner from Microsoft Teams

Planner can also be accessed directly within Microsoft Teams.

  1. Open Microsoft Teams.

  2. Select Planner or Tasks by Planner and To Do from the left navigation menu.

Note: The app name may appear differently depending on your Microsoft Teams version and Microsoft 365 updates.


Open an Existing Plan

After signing in to Planner, you can access existing plans from:

  • Favorite plans

  • Recent plans

  • All plans

Select the plan name to open and manage tasks.


What Can You Do with Microsoft Planner?

With Microsoft Planner, you can:

  • Create plans and assign tasks

  • Organize work visually using boards and buckets

  • Track task status and deadlines

  • Share files and collaborate with team members

  • Communicate about tasks within Microsoft 365

  • Monitor project progress

  • Access plans across desktop and mobile devices


Organize Work Visually

Each plan includes a visual board where tasks can be organized into categories called buckets.

Tasks can be grouped by:

  • Status

  • Priority

  • Assigned user

  • Project phase

  • Custom workflows

Tasks can easily be moved between buckets using drag-and-drop functionality.


Collaborate with Your Team

Planner integrates with Microsoft 365 services, including:

  • Microsoft Teams

  • SharePoint

  • OneDrive

  • Outlook

You can:

  • Attach files to tasks

  • Share notes and updates

  • Collaborate on documents

  • Track conversations related to tasks


Track Progress

Planner provides visual tools to help monitor progress across projects and tasks.

Views may include:

  • Boards

  • Charts

  • Task lists

  • Schedule views

The My Tasks view allows users to see assigned tasks across multiple plans in one location.


Work Across Devices

Planner is available on:

  • Desktop computers

  • Web browsers

  • Mobile devices

  • Microsoft Teams

Changes automatically sync across devices to help teams stay up to date.


Notifications

Planner can send notifications when:

  • A task is assigned

  • A task is updated

  • Someone comments on a task

  • Deadlines are approaching

Notifications may appear in:

  • Email

  • Microsoft Teams

  • Microsoft 365 notifications
