Manually Mapping a Shared Drive

After being granted access to a network shared drive, the following steps will need to be followed to access the drive (based upon the type of device and its connection to the SHU domain).

Note:

  • These steps apply to Windows devices connected to the SHU network resources.

  • The user must have been previously granted access to shared drive.

  • SHU.edu Domain Managed Device: These devices require the user to login using their eight-character Seton Hall username and network password. Typically, these devices are old model workstations. After shared drive access has been granted, please restart/sign out. Upon login, the shared drives will be listed in This PC view.

  • Amazon WorkSpaces Virtual Machine: After shared drive access has been granted, please restart/sign out. Upon login, the shared drives will be listed in This PC view.

  • Azure/InTune Managed Device: These devices require the user to login using their full Seton Hall email address and network password. Typically, these devices are newer model workstations.

 

  1. Open the This PC view:

    • Select the This PC icon from your desktop.
      OR

    • Open File Explorer (the folder icon in the Windows taskbar) and choose This PC from the left-hand panel.

  2. Open the Map Network Drive tool:

    • Select the Computer tab (at the top of the window).

    • Click Map network drive.

  3. Configure the drive mapping:

    • Drive: Select S: from the dropdown.

    • Folder: Banner shared drives, enter the following path: \\win-file1h-prod\

  4. Set connection options:

    • Check Reconnect at sign-in.

    • Do not check Connect using different credentials.

  5. Finish:

    • Click Finish to complete the setup.

  1. Open the This PC view:

    • Select the This PC icon from your desktop.
      OR

    • Open File Explorer (the folder icon in the Windows taskbar) and choose This PC from the left-hand panel.

  2. Open the Map Network Drive tool:

    • At the top of the window, select the ellipsis (⋯) menu.

    • Choose Map network drive.

  3. Configure the drive mapping:

    • Drive: Select S: from the dropdown.

    • Folder: Banner shared drives, enter the following path: \\win-file1h-prod\

  4. Set connection options:

    • Check Reconnect at sign-in.

    • Do not check Connect using different credentials.

  5. Finish:

    • Click Finish to complete the setup.

  1. Open the Connect to Server tool:

    • From the Finder (desktop background), open the Go menu.

    • Select Connect to Server….

  2. Enter the server address:

    • In the Server Address field, type:
      smb:\\win-file1h-prod\

    • Click the + button to save it as a favorite.

    • Select Connect.

  3. Confirm the connection:

    • A prompt will appear: “You are attempting to connect to …”.

    • Select Connect.

  4. Enter your login credentials:

    • Ensure Registered User is selected (not Guest).

    • Verify your 8-character username appears. If not, enter it manually.

    • Enter your SHU network password.

    • Select Connect.

  5. Choose the shared drive:

    • If you have access to multiple shared drives on the server, you’ll be prompted to select which one to connect to.

    • Choose the desired drive.

Important note:

  • Shared drives do not reconnect automatically after a reboot or shutdown.

    • Repeat the above steps to reconnect as needed.

  • You will see a “you are attempting to connect to …” screen, choose “Connect” button.

  • You will then be prompted to enter login credentials to connect to shared drive.
