How to Assign LinkedIn Learning Content in Canvas

How to Assign LinkedIn Learning Content in Canvas

LinkedIn Learning content can be added to your Canvas course as assignments, allowing students to engage with video-based learning as part of their coursework. If you add LinkedIn Learning from the External Tool list directly in Modules, it will only link students to the general LinkedIn Learning homepage, not to a specific video or course.

To ensure students are directed to the correct content, first create a LinkedIn Learning assignment following the steps below, and then add that assignment to your Module. This will link students directly to the right video or course.

  1. In Course Navigation, click Assignments.

  2. Click + Assignment to create a new one.

Note: You don’t need to check Load This Tool In A New Tab unless you prefer students to view the content outside of Canvas.

11. The title of the content will automatically become the assignment name, and the description will be populated as well, but you can modify them if needed.

  • Consider adding guiding questions in the assignment description to help students connect the video content to your course and prepare for the next class discussion.

  • You can also pair the video with a Canvas quiz or short response assignment to gauge comprehension. If you choose to do so, be sure to mention it in the description so students know to complete both assignments.

13. Set Display Grade as to either Points or Complete/Incomplete. If you don’t want this assignment to impact the final grade, check the box for Do not count this assignment towards the final grade.

To ensure students can access the assignment, add it to a Module for easy visibility, or make sure the Assignments page is enabled in your course navigation. Students do not need to log in separately to LinkedIn Learning — access is automatic through Canvas. Once published, they can launch the content directly from the assignment link.
