MATLAB - MathWorks

MATLAB (from MathWorks) is a programming and numeric computing platform widely used by engineers and scientists for data analysis, algorithm development, and modeling.

Request a MATLAB License

To request a new or renewal MATLAB license, complete the Software Request Form. You will need to provide:

• Username

• Computer Serial Number

• Course ID

• Faculty Member’s Name

Once submitted, you will receive an email with a link to this article for installation instructions.

Create a MathWorks Account

1. Go to MathWorks Account Creation.

2. Enter your SHU email address (e.g., firstname.lastname@shu.edu or firstname.lastname@student.shu.edu ) and click Next.

3. Complete the CAPTCHA verification, if prompted.

4. Create and confirm a unique password (not linked to your SHU network password).

   • Must be 8–50 characters

   • Include uppercase, lowercase, and numbers

5. Check your email for a verification code from MathWorks and enter it when prompted.

6. Accept the Online Service Agreement and click Next.

7. Complete the profile information:

   • First Name / Last Name

   • Location

   • What best describes you? → choose Teacher/Research in academia

   • Department and Role → choose appropriate options

8. Select:

   • Location of School/University: United States

   • State/Province: New Jersey

   • School/University: Seton Hall University

9. Click Next to finalize your account.

Acquire the MATLAB Installer

1. Log into your MathWorks account.

2. Verify your license has been allocated — you should see “MATLAB (Individual)” listed.

3. Select the down facing arrow to the right, under “License Actions” section.
   
   

   Open

   

4. Choose and download the installer for your device (Windows, macOS, or Linux).

Install MATLAB Software

These instructions were tested with MATLAB version R2025a.

1. Open the email from MathWorks confirming your software allocation.

2. Click the link provided and sign in to your MathWorks account.

3. Under License Actions, click the down arrow next to MATLAB (Individual) and download the correct installer.

Extract and Launch the Installer

• Windows: The installer extracts and launches automatically.

• Mac: Extract the .zip file, mount the .dmg file, and run the installer.

• Linux: Extract the .zip file and run the installer manually (refer to the included “ReadMe” file).

Installation Steps

1. Enter the email address and password for your MathWorks account.
   This password may differ from your SHU network password.

2. Accept the License Agreement and click Next.

3. Follow the Confirmation Screens

4. The installer will download and install MATLAB.

5. Once installation completes, click Close.

Completion

MATLAB is now installed and licensed on your University-issued laptop. You can launch MATLAB from your desktop shortcut or Start menu.
