Overview

The Lightboard Studio in the Innovation Hub provides an interactive, presentation-based recording environment designed for instructional content.
The studio features:
Illuminated glass lightboard display
Integrated drawing capability
Professional camera and microphone
Extended “Flex Monitor” display for notes/references
Black backdrop and studio lighting
USB-based recording
Adjustable height console
The glass lightboard acts as both a display and drawing surface. You may present slides, annotate content in real time, solve equations, highlight key concepts or create walkthrough tutorials while maintaining direct eye contact with the camera.
This space is ideal for faculty lectures, research explanations, training videos and instructional demonstrations.
Before You Begin
Prepare slides or materials you plan to display.
Have your Seton Hall University credentials ready to log in to the computer.
Adjust the height of the console table, if necessary.
Step 1: Power On the Studio
Press the circular On button located on the right side of the lightboard frame.
Studio lighting, monitors and equipment will power on automatically. Please allow a few moments for everything to become operational.
If recording, switch on the exterior “On Air” indicator near the door.
Step 2: Log In
Log in to the studio PC using your University credentials.
Open your presentation, browser content or instructional materials.
Studio Layout
When standing at the lightboard, you will have:
Lightboard (front glass display) – Primary presentation and drawing surface.
Tablet Control Panel (right side) – Controls drawing tools and recording.
Flex Monitor (visible through glass on your left)– For notes, reference materials or slide control.
Confidence Monitor (visible through glass on your right) – Displays what is being recorded.
Keyboard and mouse – For PC navigation.
How the Lightboard Recording Works
The recording captures:
You (on camera)
Any content displayed on the lightboard
Any annotations or drawings made on the screen
Anything shown on the lightboard surface becomes part of the recorded video.
Step 3: Drawing on the Lightboard
Use the tablet control panel to switch between presentation and drawing modes.
To Draw:
On the tablet, tap a color tile.
Select your desired drawing color.
Use your finger directly on the glass to:
Highlight
Circle
Underline
Annotate
Solve equations
To Clear the Screen:
•Tap the Delete button on the tablet.
To Return to Mouse Control (Important)
If you cannot control the mouse or keyboard:
Tap the Cursor button on the tablet.
This exits pen mode and restores mouse/keyboard control.
If the mouse is not responding, you are likely still in pen mode.
Select what to Record
You can select to record screen only or camera and screen. Screen only can be used if you only want to record on screen and drawing content. This is good for process/walkthrough videos without an on-camera presenter.
Step 4: Insert Your USB Drive
The Lightboard Studio includes a USB drive for shared use; however, bringing your own drive is recommended.
Insert a USB drive into the port labeled Record USB.
Confirm that it is fully inserted before beginning.
The system will not be able to record unless a USB drive is inserted.
Step 5: Start Recording
Switch the ceiling light switch off (next to the entry door), if it’s not already off. Turn on the exterior “On Air” indicator (located next to the light switch).
Press the large Record button on the control panel.
Confirm that recording has begun.
Deliver your presentation.
Step 6: Stop Recording
Press the Record button again to stop.Wait for the file to finalize.Remove your USB drive.
Step 7: Review and Save Your Recording
To review in the studio:
Insert the USB into the Computer USB port.
This opens the recorded folder.
Review your footage.
You may also plug the USB drive into your personal computer.
Because you are logged in with your University credentials, you may upload your file directly to:
OneDrive
SharePoint
All users are strongly encouraged to back up recordings immediately.
After You Finish
To ensure the room is reset for the next user, please do the following:
Log out of the studio computer.
Turn off the exterior “On Air” indicator, if used.
Press the circular Off button to power down equipment.
Switch the ceiling light switch back on.
Best Practices
Wear solid colors; avoid tight patterns.
Stand centered within the lightboard frame.
Maintain eye contact through the glass toward the camera.
Write clearly and deliberately.
Pause briefly before and after key explanations.
