The University uses ALERTUS as part of the Pirate Alert emergency notification system. ALERTUS will allow , which allows emergency messages to be sent to computers and immediately viewed by users. ALERTUS will only be utilized to alert the SHU Seton Hall community of life-threatening emergencies. ALERTUS will not be used for non-emergency messaging such as snow closures, transportation system interruptions, or general broadcast messages.

The Department of Information Technology deploys the ALERTUS software to all SHU University-issued computers connected to the SHU domain. Members of the University community that use a personally owned device or one that is not connected to the SHU domain will need to install the ALERTUS application on that device.To install ALERTUS on

The University will deploy scheduled Test alerts through ALERTUS once a semester to ensure its functionality to all University-issued computers and personally owned devices who have installed the application. It is recommended for users who primarily use a personally owned Windows device or one that is not connected to the SHU domain:device for university-related purposes to install the application prior to these tests. 

Install ALERTUS on Windows

  1. Download the install file to your Windows machine.

  2. Go Navigate to your download folder and double-click on the "Alertus_Desktop_Windows_V.4.1.exe" file that was saved to your machine.

  3. A security popup pop-up window will appear , asking if you would like to allow this app to make changes to your device, click yes Yes

  1. Download the install file to your Macintosh machine.

  2. Go Navigate to the Finder, locate the download folder and double-click on the "AlertusDesktop_v2.12.pkg" file that was saved to your machine.

  3. When the installation wizard appears follow the prompts and proceed with the installation using the default settings.

  4. During the installation when When prompted to input a your username/password during the installation, use the local computer username and password; (not your network username/password).

  5. When Once the installation is completed, select the "Close" button to close the installer.
