Within the Seton Hall email system, there are two types of mailboxes:

  • Mailboxes assigned to individuals (i.e., "john.doe@shu.edu" or "mary.smith@student.shu.edu").

  • Shared mailboxes, also known as resource mailboxes, assigned to a particular departmental (i.e., "history@shu.edu") and can be accessed by multiple users.

titleAccess a shared mailbox via web access:
  1. Open your web browser, then enter the web access address of the mailbox as:
    https://outlook.office.com/mail/<mailbox>@shu.edu/

    • For example, to access the shared mailbox, "history@shu.edu", type in: https://outlook.office.com/mail/history@shu.edu/

  2. When prompted to "Sign in to continue to Outlook", enter your eight-character username followed by "@shu.edu" and then hit the "Enter" button.

    • For example, if your name is "Mary Smith" and have a username of "smithmar", you would enter "smithmar@shu.edu" (without quotations).

  3. If you receive an additional prompt asking you to select Work or school account or Personal account, choose Work or school account.

  4. Lastly, log into your SHU account using your PirateNet login credentials.

When you are brought to the Address Book ensure that it is set to access the "Global Address List" (not the "Offline Global Address List")

Select the "Advanced Find" link.

In the "Find" screen, enter the access control list/group to update and hit the "OK" button.

Within the search results you will find two entries, the mailbox that is accessed and a second entry that has "_ACL" at the end of the name.

  2. In your Outlook toolbar, click on Find, then select Address Book from the drop-down menu.

  3. In the Address Book pop-up window, choose Global Address List from the Address Book drop-down menu in the Address Book field (not Offline Global Address List).

  4. Select the Advanced Find link.

  5. In the Find dialog box, enter the mailbox name without @shu.edu in the Alias field. For example, to update the technology@shu.edu mailbox, enter “Technology” into the Alias field.

  6. Click the OK button.

  7. From the search results, double-click on the entry that displays as <mailbox>_ACL to view the list of individuals who currently have access.
