Page Views and Participations
A page viewoccurs when a user opens a page in a course. Page views can indicate how a user has been accessing course resources, providing insight into how course resources are accessed. However, because page view data is based on server requests to the server, use page view data only as a good approximation to activity and not an absolute metric. Page view data is most valuable for understanding whether activity occurred, and to make comparisons across students within a course or when viewing trends week to week.Several actions define "participation" in Canvas and collectively describe events where a user takes an action within a course, it should be used as an approximation of activity rather than an absolute measure. This data is most useful for identifying whether activity occurred and for comparing trends across students or over time.
Participation in Canvas includes specific actions where a user actively engages with course content. The following student actions generate analytics course participation analytics:
Announcements: posts Posts a new comment to on an announcement
Assignments: submits Submits an assignment
Collaborations: loads Opens a collaboration to view/edit a document
Conferences: joins Joins a web conference
Discussions: posts Posts a new comment to in a discussion
Pages: creates Creates a page
