Within the Seton Hall email system, there are two types of mailboxes:
Mailboxes assigned to individuals (i.e., "john.doe@shu.edu" or "mary.smith@student.shu.edu").
Shared mailboxes, also known as resource mailboxes, assigned to a particular departmental (i.e., "history@shu.edu") and can be accessed by multiple users.
Access a shared mailbox via web access:
Open your web browser, then enter the web access address of the mailbox as:
https://outlook.office.com/mail/<mailbox>@shu.edu/
For example, to access the shared mailbox, "history@shu.edu", type in: https://outlook.office.com/mail/history@shu.edu/
When prompted to "Sign in to continue to Outlook", enter your eight-character username followed by "@shu.edu" and then hit the "Enter" button.
If you receive an additional prompt asking you to select Work or school account or Personal account, choose Work or school account.
Lastly, log into your SHU account using your PirateNet login credentials.
Update the authorized users list of a shared email address:
Please note:
Open the MS Office Outlook 20xx client software and in the menu bar, select "Address Book".
When you are brought to the Address Book ensure that it is set to access the "Global Address List" (not the "Offline Global Address List")
Select the "Advanced Find" link.
In the "Find" screen, enter the access control list/group to update and hit the "OK" button.
Within the search results you will find two entries, the mailbox that is accessed and a second entry that has "_ACL" at the end of the name.
Double left click the "<mailbox>_ACL" to view the list of individuals who currently has access.
To add/remove authorized user(s) of mailbox select the "Modify Members..." button.
- You may remove someone by selecting his/her name and choosing "Remove".
- You may add someone by choosing "Add..." and locate name of new user of mailbox.
