Report Phish

Phishing scams are designed to trick you into revealing sensitive personal information (e.g. passwords, credit card numbers, Social Security Number), which in turn can be used for fraud or identity theft. Phishing attacks are becoming increasingly more sophisticated which makes it challenging to discern truth from deception in our emails, text messages and phone calls.

To help keep you and the entire University community safe, the Department of Information Technology has enabled the “Report Phish” feature in all Outlook clients (desktop, web, mobile device). If you recognize that an email sent to you is a phishing email, report it!

Report Phish on Outlook for Windows

  1. Double-click the email in the Inbox panel to open it.

  2. On the right-side of your toolbar ribbon, click on the Report Phishing button to automatically send the email to Seton Hall’s IT Security team for further investigation.

Report Phish on Mobile Outlook

  1. Tap the email in the Inbox panel to open it.

  2. Tap the ellipsis (three horizontal dots) located on the same line as the sender/recipient information.

  3. On the top row of the options menu, tap the Report Phishing button.

Report Phish on Outlook on the Web

If you use Outlook on the Web, you can add the Report Phishing button in your settings so it will appear in messages you select to read. If you don't adjust your settings, the Report Phishing button is available when you click the ellipsis on the top right of your email.

Enable the Report Phishing Button to Messages

  1. Open Outlook on the Web.

  2. Open any email message and click on the ellipsis button (More Actions) located in the message toolbar.

  3. From the More Actions Menu, select Customize actions.

  4. In the Customize Actions window, check the box for Report Phishing.

  5. Click Save and close the window.

Use the Report Phishing Button in Outlook on the Web

  1. From the Inbox panel, double-click on the message you've identified as a suspected phishing attempt.

  2. Click on envelope with a yellow exclamation point icon in the message’s toolbar.
