Mathematica - How to Acquire and Install

Wolfram Mathematica is a software system with built-in libraries for several areas of technical computing that allow machine learning, statistics, symbolic computation, data manipulation, and more.

Customers can install the software using the following steps:

  • Sign into the Wolfram site to acquire the installer.

  • Install the software.

  • Activate the software (using your Seton Hall University credentials).

Follow the guide below:

  1. Go to http://www.shu.edu homepage and click "PirateNet" in upper right-hand corner.

  2. Enter your eight-character username and network password to log into account.

  3. From the "PirateNet Dashboard" ("Okta"), select the button for “Mathematica”.

  4. After logging into Wolfram site, select the tab for "Products & Services".

  5. From list of "Products & Services" select the link for "Wolfram Mathematica".

  6. Select the "Download" button and installer will be saved to your computer.

Please note: downloaded installer is approx. 6.0 GB

  1. Locate the installer file in your downloads folder and double click to install.

  2. Follow the prompts presented by the software installer. The program will download and install:
    On the "Download Location" screen, select the "Next" button.
    When the download is "Complete", select "Launch" button.

  3. If prompted "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?", select "Yes".

  4. The Installer will extract the files downloaded previously.
    The extraction process will take a few minutes.

  5. Installation of software:
    On the "Wolfram Mathematica Setup" screen, select "Next >" button.
    On the "Destination Location" screen, select "Next >" button.
    On the "Select Components" screen, select "Next >" button.
    On the "Start Menu Folder" screen, select "Next >" button.
    On the "Ready to Install" screen, select "Install" button.
    On the "Completing the Wolfram Mathematica installation" screen, ensure that "Launch ..." box is checked and select "Finish" button.

  1. On the "Wolfram Product Activation" screen, select "Sign in" button in section for "Activate through your organization (SSO)”

  2. Software will launch a web browser and bring you to a Wolfram sign-in screen.
    Enter your <username>@shu.edu and select the “Continue” button.

    For example, if your name was Mary Smith and you have a username of "smithmar" you would enter "smithmar@shu.edu" (without the quotes)

  3. When prompted log in with your PirateNet credentials.

Please note: Activation of Mathematica software suite is done so by way of your Seton Hall University issued mailbox.

  • Licensing for the software is for 2 years. At the end of that time frame you will need to update software/activation.

  • When you graduate, if you were to leave the university or end your employment with Seton Hall University your mailbox will be disabled and the ability to reactivate the product will be removed.
