Software Request and Download

After submitting the software request form, you will receive an email with a download link and a license code once your request has been processed.

  1. Click the download link for the version you want to install.

  2. Open the downloaded file to begin installation.

Installation Steps

  1. Launch the Install Stata application.

  2. Review the Stata 18 system requirements to confirm compatibility with your system.

  3. Click Continue.

  4. Read the Software License Agreement, then click Agree to accept the terms.

  5. Select Stata/SE as the installation type, then click Next.

  6. Click Continue to proceed.

  8. If installing from a disk image (Stata.dmg) located in your Downloads folder, you may see a prompt asking, "Do you want to move the package Stata to the Trash?" after clicking Close.

Activating Stata

  1. Launch Stata and have your License and Activation Key ready.

  2. In the Initialize License dialog, enter the required information:

    • User Name: Your name (at least five characters).

    • Organization: Seton Hall University.

    • Serial Number, Code, and Authorization: Copy and paste these from the License and Activation Key email received from the Service Desk request.

If you receive the message "The serial number, code, and authorization are inconsistent", retry the initialization. Ensure the code and authorization are entered correctly.

  1. Click Next to submit your information.

  2. Click Finish to complete the activation and register your copy of Stata.

Checking for Updates

Upon first launch, Stata will prompt you to check for updates. We recommend clicking Check for updates now and then OK to ensure you have the latest version.

StataCorp frequently releases updates, including new features and bug fixes.

  • By default, automatic update checking is enabled. Stata will notify you when updates are available but will not install them without your permission.

  • If you disable automatic updates, manually check for updates periodically to keep your Stata version up to date.
