Ally Alternate Formats

For certain content added to Canvas, Ally automatically generates alternative formats that students can download, ensuring greater accessibility. These formats are available for various file types, including:

  • PDF

  • Microsoft Word

  • Microsoft PowerPoint

  • OpenOffice/LibreOffice

  • Uploaded HTML files

Alternative formats allow students to access course materials in a way that best suits their needs. Depending on the original file type, available formats may include:

  • HTML: Optimized for browser or mobile viewing

  • ePub: Compatible with iPads and e-book readers

  • Electronic Braille: For use with electronic Braille displays

  • Audio MP3: Converts text to speech for listening

  • BeeLine Reader: Enhances and speeds up on-screen reading

  • OCR PDF: Converts image-based PDFs into searchable text

  • Tagged PDF: Improves compatibility with assistive technology

For more details, students can refer to Ally’s Alternative Formats Documentation.
