Manage Incompletes
In the case of an outstanding Incomplete (IN) after the Canvas transition, review detailed instructions below.
Prepare the Course in Canvas
If the student needs to finish an incomplete from Fall 2023, open a request including the course name to have your content migrated. Otherwise, course content from previous terms has already been migrated to Canvas.
Review the migrated content and finalize your course setup.
During the migration process every effort is made to identify matching functionality between Blackboard and Canvas. However, there may be instances where functionality doesn't quite match, requiring you to conduct a post-migration review and make adjustments accordingly.
You may need to update assignments due dates and availability dates for the incomplete.
Publish the course, along with all the content that the student needs to complete.
Ensure students with incompletes have been added to the Canvas course.
Note: Student(s) should already have access to the course. If not, open a support ticket with the Technology Service Desk to request that the student(s) be added to the course. In your request, provide each student’s CWID and the Course ID/CRN.
Submit final grades
After students complete their coursework in Canvas, finalize student grades using coursework from Canvas and the exported grade book from Blackboard. Then, submit grades to Banner/Leo.
Calculate Final Grade in Canvas
You can manually enter grades from Blackboard in the Canvas grade book, then let Canvas do the calculations in the Total column.
Note: the Total column in Canvas displays a running total and does not take missing assignments into consideration. You will need to enter zeros for missing assignments.
Calculate Final Grade in Excel
As an alternative, you can add Canvas grades to the grade center spreadsheet that you downloaded from Blackboard and calculate the final grade using Excel.
